How Can I Make My Car Last Longer?

How to make your car last longer | Weber Automotive | North Olmsted, Ohio

Cars are not a cheap commodity; they’re very expensive and they can be really expensive to repair. That is why it is essential to take care of it so that its value stays high and your auto expenses stay low.

At Weber Automotive, we preach maintenance because it is the only way to keep your car lasting. That is why we offer four tips to keep increase the longevity of your car.

If You Want Your Car to Last...

Don't be in a Hurry

When you're in a hurry all the time, driving fast, and stopping quickly, it really takes a toll on your car. If you're too rough on your car, you can wear the brakes, tires, and suspension out faster than if you take your time getting from destination to destination.

In addition, driving like you're in a hurry wastes gas which costs you money. Not to mention you're more inclined to get a ticket if you're speeding all the time!

Keep it Clean

If you want to get the full life out of your vehicle, keep it clean. It is important to keep all parts of your car clean, the inside, the outside, and under the hood because dirt acts as an abrasive.

Some Important Areas to Keep Clean Inside Your Car:

  • Carpet
  • Seats
  • Steering wheel
  • Shifter
  • Buttons
  • Center console

Some Important Areas to Keep Clean Outside Your Car:

  • Under the hood
  • The underside of the car
  • The paint
  • Windows
  • Tires

By routinely cleaning your car, you save not only the functionality of your car but also the aesthetic value.

Park Inside if Possible

If you have the option to park in a garage or under a carport, it is the best option to prolong the exterior paint and interior dashboard and electronics. The sun beats down on these components and can fade or overheat them.

Parking inside also keeps your car dry. When water combines with the dirt on your car, it causes the body to corrode.

Many cars have sunroofs, and parking inside is especially important for them. Even when the sunroof is closed dirt and water can still get in between the glass and the paint. Eventually, if not properly cleaned, this can lead to a leak into the car.

Keep up on maintenance

There are so many facets of vehicle maintenance, and it is different for every car. This is why each car comes with an owner's manual with the recommended regular maintenance schedule. If you really want to increase the life of your vehicle, follow the preventative maintenance schedule.

At Weber, we recommend shortening the length of time in between oil changes, but everything else is what you should do to keep your car working its best for you.

Some Quick Maintenance Tips:
  • Keep your tires inflated
  • Don't let the gas get too low
  • Change your fluids
  • Rotate the tires

At Weber Automotive, we have an excellent scheduled maintenance service to better serve you. Our computer system tracks your vehicle mileage and has all factory recommended maintenance intervals programmed into it so we can inform you when you're due for a visit.

Your car is an investment, if you want the full life out of it, take care of it. Drive safely, keep it clean, park inside, and do the maintenance recommended in the owner's manual.

Contact us at Weber Automotive today if you want to schedule a service or have any questions about your vehicle.

Recognizing the Need for New Shocks or Struts: The Top 3 Signs

When Comfort Turns into Concern At Weber Automotive, we’re committed to keeping your vehicle not just running—but running safely and smoothly. Your shocks and struts play a critical role in both ride comfort and driver control. Knowing when they need replacement can prevent costly issues and improve overall safety. Here are the top three signs it might be time to have your shocks or struts inspected. Understanding the Signs of Worn Shocks or Struts 1. Excessive Bouncing or Clunking One of the most obvious signs is a bouncy or unstable ride. If your vehicle continues to bounce after hitting a bump or dip, your shocks may be worn. Clunking noises when going over uneven surfaces can also point to loose or damaged components. Think of your tires like basketballs—they must maintain contact with the road. When shocks fail, tire contact is reduced, which decreases your control and increases stopping distances. 2. Sliding Around Turns Are you feeling like your car is “drifting” or sliding during turns? This can indicate that your shocks or struts are no longer stabilizing your vehicle properly. Good suspension keeps your tires firmly grounded through corners. Without it, you lose handling precision and control—putting yourself and others at greater risk. 3. Increased Stopping Distances Worn shocks and struts may significantly increase how long it takes your vehicle to come to a complete stop. If you’re noticing longer stopping di
