Buying a Used Car? Make Sure You Follow This Check List.

Thinking about buying a used car? If you have found a car that you want to buy, go through our used car checklist to make sure you are getting a good deal. There are a few things you should do before you buy!

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE BUYING A USED CAR:

Pre-Qualify Yourself

Make sure you know what type of vehicle you are looking for. There are many different makes and models out there, and everyone has different wants and needs when it comes to their cars. 
Once you have found the kind of car you want, read up about it. Make sure you know the price range you can expect to pay, common issues with that car, the maintenance that goes into that specific car, and much more.

Look at the Exterior and Interior of the Car

Take a thorough look at the interior and exterior of the car. You can see signs of abuse, neglect, maybe a heavy damage repair. 

Take the Car for a Test Drive

• When test driving a car, look/listen for:
• Rattles, squeaks, knocks. 
• Does it shift right? 
• Does it seem to run smoothly? 
• Does it steer straight?

During the test drive, make sure you are the first one to start the car and then take it through the city and on the highway to make sure it sounds and feels right on both. 

Look for Any Leaking Substances

Open up the hood and look around for any leaks, or anything that looks like it's oily or wet. Also, take a look underneath the car to see if it has any leakage there. Just take a quick look under the engine and the front bumper from the side and see if there are any wet spots.

Have a Mechanic Inspect It

Have a pre-purchase inspection from an impartial mechanic. This way you can have a professional look it over to make sure that you won't run into any problems as soon as you drive it off the lot. 

Figure Out a Fair Price

To make sure you are getting a fair price on your used car, check Kelley Blue Book to see the retail values, resale estimations and all of that. You can judge for yourself based on the prices that KBB gives you if you are paying a good price for the car or not.
