Ohio E-Check FAQs

How do I know if my car needs an E-Check?JasonEchecksized

All even-model year vehicles must be tested during the even-numbered years (e.g. a 2008 vehicle must be tested in 2020, 2022, etc.). All odd-model year vehicles must be tested during the odd-numbered years (e.g. a 2007 vehicle must be tested in 2021, 2023, etc.). There is a four-year exemption for new vehicles.

Does my new car need an Ohio E-Check?

New cars are exempt for the first four model years.

How do I find an E-Check location?

You can search by city or zip code on the Ohio E-Check website.

What if I fail my E-Check?

You will need to perform the recommended repairs. Most Ohio E-Check facilities do not perform repairs; however, Weber Automotive does!

What if I don’t have money for repairs?

You may be eligible for a six-month hardship extension if your vehicle fails the Ohio E-Check test if your household’s income falls within the income guidelines. To qualify for a hardship extension, you must provide a completed Hardship Extension Application, a failed E-Check test, a written estimate for emission-related repairs, including diagnostic fees, in the amount of $75 or more and meet the income guidelines below.

In the event you can't afford part of the repairs, you may qualify for a 2-year E-Check waiver if the repair cost is over $300.
